Officials warn that there have been reports from residents of a scammer making the rounds throughout Eastchester, claiming to be fundraising on behalf of 13-year-old Nicholas DiMarzo, who was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer.
“Please know that the family has not requested, nor authorized, anyone to fundraise in this manner and they are concerned that residents may be conned by deceitful individuals trying to benefit by the cause,” Eastchester Police said, noting that there are real charities for DiMarzo.
According to the family, "Nicholas has already begun a series of intense chemotherapy sessions and will continue these treatments for the next 10 (to) 12 months, including radiation, beginning at the five-month mark. All of these treatments take place at Memorial Sloan Kettering in (New York City).
Anyone who encounters a scammer going door-to-door soliciting money has been asked to contact investigators at the Eastchester Police Department by calling (914) 961-3464.
